GHOSTS Of The Skies

Ghosts of the Skies, Aviation in the Second World War showcases the extraordinary full-color photographs of Philip Makanna, who for twenty years has been traveling the globe to document these painstakingly restored aircraft in actual flight, in many cases for the last – or only – time before they were retired.
Makanna’s collection spans the full range of World War II combat aircraft, including American Corsairs, British Spitfires, German Messerschmitts, and Japanese Zeroes. Over 100 striking color photographs interspersed with fascinating black-and-white archival images, dramatic historical quotes, and compelling firsthand accounts by pilots and others who were there create a moving tribute to these legendary planes and the courageous men who flew them.
